Day 3: The majestic Westfjords
After breakfast, we will make our way along the fjords. The first stop will be Dynjandi Waterfall, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. During the hike to the top, you will pass several smaller waterfalls. Next up is Bildudalur, the “capital of good weather”. The good weather in the fjord is probably the reason why its inhabitants are known to be extremely friendly. Besides that town is also known for its Sea Monster Museum. Now it is time for something special. Iceland is known for its natural hot springs and we will visit Reykjafjarðarlaug. The natural hot spring is located directly next to the cold Atlantic ocean. Now we are relaxed enough to head to Iceland’s most western part called Látrabjarg. The cliffs are 14 km long and the home to many Puffins and other birds.
Day 4: The southside of the Westfjords
We start our day in Patreksfjördur and to the southern part of the Westfjords. The first stop will be the shipwreck called Garðar BA 64. The ship was once launched in the same year as the Titanic and it is a great place for photos. Next up is Rauðisandur beach. The beach is known for changing its colors. It can change its shades from yellow, orange, pink, red, and even black, but it is mostly red, which comes from pulverized scallop shells. On our way out of the Westfjords, we will visit the town of Reykhólar. The town is known for its smart use of abundant geothermal heat. We can visit the Salt factory or take a swim at the famous seaweed baths.
Day 5: The capital of the North
Starting in the town of Laugarbakki, the road will take us to Hvítserkur. Hvítserkur, also known as the Troll of Northwest Iceland. The basalt rock is 15m high, standing beautiful in the Húnaflói Bay. We driving along the fjords towards Dalvik. For those who want the first-hand experience with nature, Dalvík is a perfect choice. Dalvík is placed in the natural paradise that is Tröllaskagi peninsula and has great access to the ocean. A perfect place to enjoy a whale watching tour. After the tour, it is only a short drive to our final destination Akureyri.
Day: 6: Myvatn and Waterfalls
Today we had to a region that is known for its beauty. Thanks to its remote location, places are less crowded and we can enjoy the magic of mother nature. The first stop of the day will be the Dettifoss waterfall. Dettifoss is Europe’s most powerful waterfall and on average 193.000 l/s run down the waterfall. Now it is time for lake Myvatn and its surrounding area. The area was created during a volcanic eruption 2.300 years ago. Many beautiful places can be found here, such as Hverir, where we can see many smoking fumaroles and boiling pots, Grjótagjá, a small lava cave with a geothermal hot spring in its depths, and Dimmuborgir, a lava rock formation known as the “Black Fortress” and a place full of Icelandic folklore. Our last stop of the day is Goðafoss, the waterfall of the Gods. It is fed by the fourth-biggest river called Skjálfandafljót and is definitely one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the country. After that, your guide will bring you to the airport where you board a plane back to Reykjavik. Back in the capital region, a private driver will bring you to your hotel.
Day 7: Airport Transfer
Depending on your flight time you can spend a day in the city before a private driver will bring you to the airport.
